So far, it’s been wine and rhododendrons. (Well, no wine yet.) Sure, we had to get up at 3:30 a.m., but that and the excellent service of the (alas, bankrupt) Frontier Airlines got us to Vancouver even ahead of schedule, 10:30 a.m. PST. That gave us some time to explore some of our favorite places in Vancouver on our own. (Danielle’s parents are still somewhere over the Rockies as I write this in the late afternoon.) The one small problem has been that I appear to have thrown my back out a little bit yesterday. I’m sure I’m on the mend, but Danielle heroically did much luggage-carrying today. And there is a lot of luggage! The cruise ship (pictured here from our sixteenth-floor hotel room window
) seems to be pretty stuffy about clothing on board, so suits and dresses and ties and about thirteen pairs of shoes needed to be packed.
The rhodo season is partly over already — some of the more fabulous yellow ones have lost all their petals already. But it was still splendid. We also became acquainted with a gunnera plant, a weird-as-heck monster. Danielle stands next to some here. There were also some nice fiddleheads, but we didn’t eat them because there was a sign that said flowers aren’t to be picked — duh — and we figured that injunction extended to non-flowering plants. Anyway, there were lots of people enjoying the sunny afternoon in Stanley Park and on the waterfront in general. I suggested that buy a penthouse condo in one of the buildings next to the park. It’d be a nice vacation home, right? How expensive could they be, anyway?

So a festive cruise ahead! Bon Voyage!>Jorkki
