Our final summer adventure in 2012 was a trip to Silverton, Colorado, to visit our friends Anna and Chris. They were staying with Anna’s parents George and Ellen, who had built a second home in town.
Silverton is a funky place. It’s not particularly easy to get to: You can fly to Durango and drive (or take an old-fashioned steam-engine train). But getting to Durango is not all that easy, either. You can basically fly there from Denver.
It’s worth it, though. I’ll let this video show that. As is apparent, this trip involved no serious adventuring or technical climbing, but it was fabulous all the same. And I did get to hike to my first 13,000-footer.
